Homework Tips

Quick Links:

Ways You Can Help Your Student:

  • Review planner with your student. They are required to write their homework

assignments in their planner every day.

Click on the Parent Portal and Gradebook link to set up your account.

You will need your student’s ID number which starts with a 9.

Students are given their grades each Monday and Wednesday; ask to see them.

  • Have your student study and retake tests/quizzes. They are 90% of your student’s grade.

  • Set a specific time each day for student’s homework time.

  • Limit distractions such as cell phones, TV and video games.

  • Encourage your student to attend our afterschool program Monday-Thursday 3-5pm.

  • Homework help is 1st hour. Fun activities are 2nd hour. There is a late bus that students

can take if they ride the bus to school.

  • Contact teachers with questions. Go to the Granite Park website:

http://schools.graniteschools.org/graniteparkjr/ to access teachers’ email addresses

  • Encourage sleep. (Avoid TV in bedroom or cell phone use during the night).

What to Do When Your Student Says He/She Does Not Have Homework:

*Students should always review planner, homework logs, grades and assignments.

*They need to write, review and study their Cornell notes from class each day. They need to write

questions, highlight key concepts and vocabulary and write summaries of each day’s notes.

English:

  • All students should read 30 minutes per night.

  • 8th grade: Read 10 books each quarter.

  • 9th grade: “Study” or highlight editor’s marks from their starter activities.

Math:

  • All students use Moby Max internet program to improve math and English/language arts skills.

We recommend students work on this program 15-20 minutes each night. They can also complete

this in the afterschool program if there is no computer access at home.
